Sandra Rivera
Hello Parents,
My name is Ms. Sandra and I am excited to be joining the PHMS family!
I have over ten years of experience in education, but a lifelong relationship with the love of learning. My introduction to Montessori education began while I was earning my early childhood education degree, and I was reacquainted with it recently when my son enrolled at PHMS. Growing up, I lived on Air Force bases in various European countries where my mother served as a Principal for DODDES schools. This environment, surrounded by teachers and educators, has truly shaped my path in education and deepened my understanding of different learning styles and practical life skills.
My primary goal this year is to ensure all students have an enjoyable and successful learning experience, gaining confidence in their abilities. I firmly believe that every student can learn any subject successfully and fluidly with the support from a strong community.
I'm looking forward to a fantastic year at PHMS.
Ms. Sandra
Jeremy Sellers
Hello PHMS,
First, a big thank you to you for trusting me with your children! My name is Jeremy Sellers and this will be my 10th year teaching. Last year, I was here at PHMS as the upper Elementary teacher and I am returning this year in the same role. Last year, we had a great year, we learned a lot about each other as well as learning a great deal about responsibilities that are expected of us as we grow older. I introduced Culinary class every other Friday, which we will continue this year, and we traveled to the grocery store Thursday prior to cooking. Opposite weeks, we enjoyed “going outs’ ex: doctoring sick cattle- working farms, and locally owned and farm raised organic businesses. We also started a new program becoming involved in the Gilmer County Camber Of Commerce. We will expand our involvement this year in each of these endeavors and hopefully broaden our new programs/ going outs, so we can complement our PHMS curriculum, and hopefully challenge our students each and every day, while also adding important real word experiences.
Prior to becoming an employee at PHMS I was employed at Pickens County High School as an Alternative School Instructor (PACE). During my time at PACE, my two main academic subjects were History and Science. My students ranged in grade levels from 5th- 12th, so I had to be well versed in all academic courses (English, Math, electives) over a broad span of not only ages, but a large spectrum of learning capabilities. While at PACE, I worked with many levels of behavior issues as well as special needs students. I was also a Physical Fitness Coach as well as Health and Weight Training. During my tenure at Pickens, I was the Defensive Line Coach for the varsity football team. Prior to Pickens, I worked for Gilmer High School as a Credit Recovery Instructor. During this time, I was the Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. I graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management. I am GACE certified in Physical Education and Health. Before I entered teaching, I worked at Gilmer Parks and Recreation as a Program Assistant Director. I have a working farm with cattle, chickens, and horses. I enjoy gardening in my free time and love to cook. I have been married for almost 30 years to Jennifer Sellers and she is also a teacher of 28 years. I am so very lucky to have two wonderful children Garrett and Taylor Sellers. Garrett is 27 and is married to his wonderful wife Kaylin( Nurse) and they are parents to my precious grandson, Beau Jameson who will soon be one year old. Garrett is employed at One Source as an Account Manager. Taylor is 23 and lives in Ellijay with her partner Greg ( Executive chief ). Taylor, is the lead Veterinary Technician at Wayside in Jasper.
I look forward to hearing from each and everyone about your child's growth this school year.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am very excited about this opportunity and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Sellers
Hello all! I am Ms. Tara, a Montessori guide for the PHMS elementary environment. I am thrilled to be returning for another year of learning with your scholars!
I have two boys, Russell and Mason that also attend PHMS. I experienced Montessori firsthand as a child and cherish the opportunity to pass on this special style of learning to not only my own kids, but yours as well. The Montessori way will foster a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
First and foremost, I am an educator for your child, but I will also serve to fuel their interests, help them develop their personal voice, and create a deep understanding of the world around them that aims to promote interconnectedness.
Every child is unique and therefore deserves individualized education. My goal is to observe your child to determine their strengths, encourage their natural curiosities and make note of their less desired studies. Our elementary education spans over three years and allows your child to excel in some subjects while taking their time to fully grasp concepts in other areas before moving on. This ensures their progress is natural and not forced, typically resulting in an ongoing love for learning.
I strive for a team effort to support your child, so please keep an open line of communication with me and my fellow elementary guides. Working together will yield faster results inside and outside of the classroom. Feel free to inform me of any family goals you may have that we can help support here at school.
Okay, let's get started!
Ms. Tara
