In 2001…

Our founder, Angela McClure opened the doors to Pleasant Hills Montessori School with 3 students. With a Masters in Education, Montessori certification, and more than 30 years of experience working for traditional schools, she sought to create access to a unique curriculum designed to nurture the whole child.

Utilizing the lifework of Maria Montessori Pleasant Hills began to foster a lifelong love of learning to the children of Gilmer County. Pairing practical life skills with academic studies her students stand out as independent contributors to their communities today.

Today…

Pleasant Hills Montessori School serves approximately 50 students in three different communities. We still educate our students using the Montessori Method, but believe if Maria Montessori were alive today she would agree with us that we must meet the children where they are. We monitor and adjust daily to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

This means we work with specialists and providers on campus to offer tailored supplemental curriculum when needed. Our students experience the freedom to progress in each subject at their own rate. We value true mastery over linear growth.

Dr. Maria Montessori

“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”

Multi-age classrooms.

A shared classroom of mixed ages provides opportunities for peer learning and allows our students to have a collaborative learning experience. This dynamic fosters a sense of community and helps develop a sense of self.

A love of learning.

Independent learners are better equipped to excel academically, as they are self-motivated, resourceful, and take initiative in their studies.

Independence.

Montessori classrooms foster essential life skills such as problem-solving, time management, and organization, setting children up for success in their personal and professional lives.

A part of the community.

By creating wholesome connections with members of our county, our school is dedicated to empowering your children to become contributing members of the community they are a part of. We are member of the Gilmer Chamber of Commerce and take part in volunteering with several organizations like Homeward Bound, a local shelter in Ellijay.

The Small Business Association and Truist bank are working with our upper elementary environment to provide financial literacy and set the groundwork for responsible business relationships.

The middle and high school program is in development. This program is the next step to securing independence in career building and exercising commerce. The foundation of this program is project-based learning that gives our kids practical application and confidence in their occupations.
